God Speaks to Us
“God really spoke to me today!”
How often we hear statements similar to this by Christians and yet in reality many of us do not seem to experience this normal or continuous sense of “God speaking to us.” Indeed many of us are confused as to what is meant when other people talk about God speaking to them and are often too self-conscious to ask what is meant when this is being said. How then does God speak to us and how can we tune in order to clearly hear his voice and understand his will?
I would like to go through major encounters between God and a wide selection of people in a variety of circumstances, throughout the Bible – situations where they were very aware of God clearly speaking to them - in order to see what we might learn from their experience. After these brief studies I would like to examine ways in which God speaks to us today and how we might become sensitive to His voice.
These studies came about by people in our church asking that very basic question – “How do we know that God is speaking to us? How can we be sure that it is His voice we are hearing?” We explored together in our worship services, examples from the Bible of the different ways in which God communicates with His people. What you will read comes out of these services and the discussions that followed. I hope you find them helpful as you, with all God’s people, seek to understand and hear God speaking to us more clearly in a time when there are so many competing voices that demand our attention.
